When we first discovered Florissant, Colorado, it felt like stumbling onto a secret corner of the Rockies. Tucked just west of Pikes Peak and only a short drive from Woodland Park, this little town quickly stole our hearts. We loved the quiet mountain roads, the star-filled skies, and the kind of slower pace that makes you feel like you can finally breathe.
That’s what led us to The Fossil Lodge. It’s nothing flashy, just a cozy spot in the woods where we can gather as a family, sip coffee on the deck, and watch our toddler explore the fresh mountain air. We’re not a big business—we’re just a family who loves Colorado and is so grateful to be able to share this little piece of it with others.
When you stay here, you’re not booking with a faceless rental company. The Fossil Lodge is a family-owned cabin where some of our earliest memories with our daughter were made… bringing her here as a baby, enjoying quiet mornings together, and soaking in the calm of the mountains. Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is hidden gem for all ages, with prehistoric fossil beds, petrified giant trees, and easy hiking trails perfect for little legs.
Cripple Creek is just a short drive away, this historic mining town is full of old west charm, with museums, a narrow-gauge railroad, and quirky shops to explore.
Woodland Park is known as the “City Above the Clouds,” Woodland Park is only 20 minutes from The Fossil Lodge. It’s our go-to for restaurants, breweries, grocery stops, and the kid-favorite Dinosaur Resource Center.
Pikes Peak & Garden of the Gods both make for unforgettable day trips. Drive to the summit for sweeping views or wander among Colorado Springs’ iconic red rock formations.
Local Hiking & Stargazing – Whether it’s a casual stroll, a tougher hike, or an evening under endless stars, Florissant has it all. Some of the best night skies we’ve ever seen have been right outside The Fossil Lodge.

Inside, you’ll find everything you need for a relaxing stay, whether you’re unwinding after a day of hiking or just cozying up by the fire with a good book. Outside, you’re surrounded by nature, mountain views, and the kind of quiet that’s hard to find anywhere else.
